Basically, I'm just trying to make it as much like Windows 8.1 as I can. Because I have a DreamSpark subscription through my academic institution, I'm using Windows Server 2012 R2 as a desktop OS. I've seen posts about this sort of thing before, but never a resolution that fits the problem case at hand.
